Established in 1917, the Patna Museum, locally known as Jadu Ghar, houses a treasure trove of ancient Indian history. The museum building itself is constructed in a beautiful Indo-Saracenic style, surrounded by manicured lawns.
1. The Didarganj Yakshi
The museum's prized possession is the Didarganj Yakshi, a life-sized sandstone statue dating back to the Mauryan period (3rd century BCE). The statue is celebrated worldwide for its perfect proportions and mirror-like Maurya polish.
2. Buddha Relics
Another sacred relic housed here is the Buddha Relic Casket, containing the holy cremated ashes of Lord Buddha excavated from Vaishali. The museum also exhibits Gandhara art and bronze statues.
3. Visitor Information
The museum is open daily except Mondays. We provide a complete guide to galleries, visitor hours, and ticket prices.
