Rajgir
Overview
Rajgir, meaning "The House of Kings", was the first capital of the ancient kingdom of Magadha. It is sacred to Buddhists, Hindus, and Jains. The city is famous for its natural hot springs (Brahmakund) believed to have healing properties, the Vishwa Shanti Stupa situated on Ratnagiri hill accessible by ropeway, and the modern Rajgir Glass Bridge skywalk.
History & Origins
Mentioned in the Mahabharata as the capital of King Jarasandha. It was frequented by Gautama Buddha and Lord Mahavira. It hosted the First Buddhist Council in the Saptaparni Cave shortly after Buddha's Mahaparinirvana.
