In the 12th century, Nalanda was tragically destroyed during invasions led by Bakhtiyar Khilji, resulting in the loss of priceless manuscripts and centuries of accumulated knowledge.

Today, the ruins of Nalanda Mahavihara stand proudly as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A modern Nalanda University has been revived nearby to continue its ancient legacy of global education.
