🕉️ About Vishnupad Temple
Vishnupad Temple is one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites, located on the banks of the Phalgu River in Gaya, Bihar. The temple is believed to be built on the exact spot where Lord Vishnu placed His foot while subduing the demon Gayasura.
The sacred footprint, about 40 cm long, is engraved on a solid basalt rock and enshrined inside the sanctum sanctorum, making it a unique and deeply revered symbol of devotion.
Devotees from across India visit Vishnupad Temple to perform Pind Daan rituals for their ancestors, especially during the holy period of Pitru Paksha.
🏛️ History & Architecture
The present structure of Vishnupad Temple was rebuilt in the 18th century by the revered queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore , who contributed immensely to the restoration of major Hindu temples across India.
Constructed entirely of gray granite, the temple stands as a timeless symbol of devotion, resilience, and India’s rich spiritual heritage.
