Takht Sri Patna Sahib, also known as Harmandir Sahib, is one of the five Takhts (highest seats of temporal authority) in Sikhism. Built to commemorate the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Guru of Sikhism, who was born here in 1666, the white-marble Gurdwara is situated in old Patna City.
1. Historical Shrines and Relics
The Gurdwara was originally constructed by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who also contributed to the golden dome of the Golden Temple. It houses rare relics belonging to Guru Gobind Singh, including his weapons, sandals, and cradle.
2. Langar: The Community Kitchen
The Gurdwara's community kitchen (Langar) serves hot meals to visitors of all faiths daily. The entire complex is maintained by volunteers who clean, cook, and manage the crowds with deep devotion.
3. Prakash Parv Celebrations
Every year, millions of devotees gather here to celebrate Guru Gobind Singh's birth anniversary (Prakash Parv). The entire area is illuminated with lights, and massive processions (Nagar Kirtans) are organized. We share guidelines on local etiquette.
