Overview

Golghar is a prominent beehive-shaped granary located near the Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Standing 29 meters tall with no internal pillars, it features a double spiral staircase of 145 steps winding up the exterior. The stairs lead to the top dome, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Patna city and the flowing Ganges River.

History & Origins

Built by Captain John Garstin in 1786 in response to the devastating Bengal Famine of 1770, to serve as a perpetual granary for the British army.
