Overview

Rohtasgarh Fort is an ancient fort situated on the Kaimur plateau in the Rohtas district. Standing at a height of 1,500 feet above the Son River valley, it spans a massive area and was considered one of the most impregnable forts in medieval India. The fort features monumental structures, including the Shahi Darwaza, Jama Masjid, Ganesh Temple, and the palace ruins of Raja Man Singh.

History & Origins

Legend attributes the fort's construction to Rohitashva, the son of the legendary King Harishchandra. In historical times, it was captured by Sher Shah Suri in 1539 and later served as the headquarters of Raja Man Singh, Akbar's governor.
