Vishwa Shanti Stupa
Overview
Vishwa Shanti Stupa (World Peace Pagoda) is a massive white monument located on the summit of Ratnagiri hill in Rajgir. Built to promote world peace and non-violence, it stands at a height of 120 feet and features four golden statues of the Buddha representing his birth, enlightenment, teaching, and death. Tourists reach the stupa via a single-seater chairlift ropeway.
History & Origins
Inaugurated in 1969, the stupa was designed by Japanese architect Upasni and conceptualized by Fujii Guruji, a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, to revive Buddhist heritage.
